PSG director Leonardo denies contacting Max Allegri to replace Thomas Tuchel, but admits they were ‘tempted’ by Lionel Messi.

There have been reports that Tuchel’s position is in doubt even after reaching the Champions League Final and winning every French trophy last season.

“Things are very clear with Tuchel, we talk a great deal,” Leonardo told Canal+.

“He achieved something fantastic, now we are taking time to reflect, but I have never contacted any other coach and that includes Allegri. I can also say we did not sign any players without Tuchel giving it the all-clear.

“There are still 10 months on Tuchel’s contract, there will be time to talk about his future.”

Paris Saint-Germain were among the contenders for Messi, along with Manchester City, Inter and Juventus, when he seemed set to leave Barcelona as a free agent.

“We certainly thought about it. There’s a complicated situation with Financial Fair Play, but when we heard Messi could be on the market… it tempted us.

“We asked ourselves if it really was possible. There are some players who are completely out of the ordinary. The problem now is that all the clubs need to sell before they can buy and PSG are no different. But it’s difficult, because nobody is buying.

“We invested heavily in Mauro Icardi tis summer, so need to be a little more creative going forward.”

PSG purchased Icardi from Inter for a total sum of €63m plus up to €7m in bonuses.
