Keane, who scored against Barcelona in the Champions League last week, has scored 14 times in 26 competitive games with PSG.

Leonardo, however, revealed the loan deal was the ‘only possible formula’ to bring the 20-year-old to Paris last summer and claimed it’s ‘complicated to know’ if Kean could stay beyond 2020-21.

“The truth is that it was the only possible formula,” Leonardo told France Blue. “And I thought it could be a positive thing to have Kean available for a year.

“Today, it’s difficult to say what his future will be, we will see towards the end of the season. Today it's very complicated to know how it will go, but Kean certainly has a great future ahead of him.”

The former Juventus attacker moved to Everton in August 2019 for a reported €27.5m and has previously been linked with a return to Serie A.
