Icardi joined the Ligue 1 side on the last day of the summer transfer window and has taken well to life in the French capital.

Despite the competition from the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani, Icardi has scored 13 times in 16 games.

Speaking after the conclusion of the Champions League draw in Nyon, Leonardo said PSG aren’t rushing into a decision to redeem him.

“I found a very helpful lad, who works a lot. He understood exactly what the goal is and also the competition for places at PSG. He’s doing what he does best: scoring goals,” Leonardo told Tuttomercatoweb.

PSG have the option to sign Icardi for a reported €70m next summer, and there had been speculation that the Parisians are eager to complete the deal in January.

However Icardi’s agent/wife Wanda Nara is believed to be assessing other options around Europe before committing to stay.

“Six months in football is an eternity, retaining him is not a current thought. Today his situation is very stable," added Leonardo.

“Icardi knows what he is experiencing and we go on as such. He is a true No 9, effective, which is completed to perfection with his teammates.

“We signed him because we thought he could be a protagonist here.”
