Leicester City are preparing for Kasper Schmeichel’s move to Nice and they’ve identified Alex Meret as a strong replacement.
The 25-year-old Italian shot stopper only has one year left on his deal with Napoli and he’s not currently put pen to paper on a renewal yet, despite seemingly agreeing one with the club earlier this summer. Meret does not want to remain a backup option and so he’s waiting to see what the Campania side do on the transfer market before making a decision.
As reported by Rai Sport, Leicester are compiling a shortlist of replacements for Schmeichel and they’ve added Meret to this, aware of his contract situation with Napoli.
The Partenopei aren’t looking to give any discounts on Meret, so it’ll take around €15m plus add-ons, as well as possibly a future resale clause, to agree a deal.
Last season, the 25-year-old Meret only made seven Serie A appearances, remaining second string behind David Ospina.
