Chiellini caused division with his harsh criticism of Melo and Mario Balotelli while promoting his new autobiography, provoking angry responses from the pair.

“All this fuss was inevitable,” Legrottaglie, who played with the 35-year-old in Juve’s defence, told CalcioToday.

“On the other hand, the reaction of the two players was normal, given the offensive nature of the comments about them.

“Unlike Giorgio, I would’ve talked more generally about the poor conduct of some players in the dressing room, without being personal.

“Chiellini highlighted some of the conduct that annoyed not only him. Maybe he could’ve avoided being offensive.

“Melo knows where he went wrong, not putting the team first, the same with Balotelli.

“However, in life you reap what you sow and the Brazilian often got on my nerves as well.

“Giorgio expressed himself in his autobiography, therefore he did so spontaneously.”

The Pescara boss also felt his former teammate could have done without saying he ‘hated’ Inter.

“Again, he could’ve avoided using the word ‘hate’. Maybe he could’ve said it in another way and a message less loud would’ve been fine.

“I respect what Giorgio said, but he must also take responsibility for what he says.”
