On Wednesday, a joint-appeal by Ternana, Robur Siena, Novara and Pro Vercelli for Serie B to scrap its revised 19-team format was accepted.
The 2018-19 Serie B campaign eventually started with 19 teams at the end of August, as the FIGC decided against replacing Avellino, Bari and Cesena, all of whom went bankrupt.
That led Ternana to launch an appeal against the revised format, and the Tribunale Amministrativo Regionale (TAR) in Lazio sided with the Serie C club.
Today there was an emergency meeting of the Lega Serie B and the 19 clubs united in protesting the decision, announcing they would lodge a counter-appeal.
The FIGC is expected to give its verdict on that appeal tomorrow.
Meanwhile, they refused to suspend the games due this weekend and Lega Serie B President Mario Balata demanded “the legitimate right to take part in the Serie B season, based on the format drawn up by the FIGC.
“The FIGC does not intend to suspend the order that censures its own rulings, so we ask the FIGC if we are part of the system or not. Are there leagues treated better than others?
“If there were events to change the 19-team format, we would move to defend the rights of the 19 clubs and all those involved, including the players. We ask the Government to protect our league.
