The Lega Serie A are prepared to take clubs and local health authorities to an appeals court in order to maintain the UEFA protocol and stop games being called off, even if a team is ordered under quarantine.

The football authorities believe they can overturn the precedent set by Napoli’s appeal over the cancelled game against Juventus in October 2020, relying on the new Government decree.

That decree rules that those who have a Super Green Pass – so have had the third or second vaccine, or have recovered from COVID within the last 120 days – do not need to quarantine even if they are in contact with someone who tests positive.

The new decree would have these people only practice ‘self-surveillance’ for any symptoms, having a test five days after they were last in contact with the positive person.

This would seemingly not include use of a FFP2 level mask at all times, unlike the previous decree.

The Lega Serie A wants to therefore sue the ASL (local health authority) and take them to the TAR appeals court to ensure they stick to the decree and football protocol.

Meanwhile, Bologna have confirmed the order they received from the ASL after eight players and two members of staff tested positive for COVID-19.

“7-10 days of isolation for the athletes who tested positive in recent days and in any case until they are symptom-free, with proof of a negative test, as required by law.

“In addition, regarding the rest of the squad, there will be strict health surveillance and the obligation to wear a mask FFP2 for 5 days for all fully vaccinated individuals in the last 120 days, those who have recovered within the last 120 days or those who have received the booster dose.

“There will be an order for home quarantine for 5 days, until 09/01/2022, plus a test for all squad members with a vaccination cycle completed more than 120 days ago; home quarantine for 10 days, until 13/01/2022, plus a test for all those who are not fully vaccinated.

“For all the above it follows that all members of the team will not be able to participate in official sporting events for at least 5 days until 09/01/2022 and in any case, each of the component orders above must be observed until the complete resolution of the related measures.”

Naturally, Bologna asked the Lega Serie A to postpone the games against Inter on Thursday and Cagliari, scheduled for Sunday.

  1. You would think just about 2 years into a pandemic that healthcare professionals have an OUTPATIENT TREATMENT PROTOCOL beyond demanding people ‘self isolate’, but hey, what do I know.
