Lega Serie A have released a statement following this afternoon’s Serie A Clubs Assembly meeting, where the topic of possibly postponing upcoming games was discussed.

Four matches were called off yesterday following various COVID outbreaks in some teams, with games like BolognaAtalanta and Atalanta-Torino postponed. The 20 Serie A clubs met today with the League to discuss the situation and what comes next.

Below is the Lega Serie A statement in full, discussing the upcoming matches:

“Lega Serie A, at the end of today’s meeting, firmly reiterates its confidence that it will be able to continue holding its competitions (Serie A TIM, Coppa Italia Frecciarossa, Supercoppa Frecciarossa) as planned, thanks to the application of the organisational regulations approved yesterday by the League Council.

“As per the statement circulated yesterday, Lega Serie A also hopes that in the government meeting next Wednesday it will be possible to clearly identify coordination tools for the territorial Local Health Authorities to ensure uniform management of COVID situations in the teams.

“The clubs will meet next week to discuss the situation of TV rights in the Middle East and North Africa area, an item on the agenda of the meeting.”

Italian prime minister Mario Draghi expressed his concern to FIGC president Gabriele Gravina earlier today regarding the COVID situation, with one of his issues being the lack of enforcement regarding FFP2 masks for fans inside the stadiums.

So far all of Sunday’s matches are set to go ahead as planned, but things could change as the situation continues to evolve. There is a chance that games could return to being played behind closed doors, something that would have a significant financial impact upon all teams in the league.
