The Lega Serie A assure there are no plans to postpone any of the two sets of fixtures coming up, even after Salernitana were ordered to quarantine, setting up yet more legal battles and tests of the COVID-19 protocol.

Serie A has been on a break for the Christmas and New Year festivities, but the time spent with their families and travelling has also created a spike of new COVID-19 cases among players and staff.

There were reports today that several games were at risk, both on Thursday January 6 and at the weekend, with nine players positive at Salernitana, eight at Verona and seven for Udinese.

However, the Lega Serie A informed news agency ANSA this evening that there are absolutely no plans to postpone any of the games.

That includes Salernitana vs. Venezia, despite the fact Salernitana were today ordered by the local health authority (ASL) to go into quarantine.

Serie A games at risk due to COVID, Juventus-Napoli off again?

The training ground is considered an outbreak zone after 11 positive cases, nine of them players, and they have been ordered not to leave their homes for at least 10 days.

The Lega Serie A had also refused to accept an ASL travel ban as the reason for Salernitana missing the game with Udinese on December 22.

This is setting up another legal battle over the COVID-19 protocol, but one Serie A is destined to lose, because the precedent has already been set.

It happened when Napoli were ordered not to travel for the trip to Juventus in October 2020, initially given an automatic 3-0 defeat and docked one point.

They lost the first appeal, but won the second with the Collegio di Garanzia, which set a legal precedent.

It means the ASL do have the authority to over-rule the football COVID protocol and force the suspension of games.

  1. Marotta needs to raise his offer and this decision will be rescinded.

Marotta wants Juve-Napoli cancelled because he knows Juve are in a good position to win that game.

  2. Well done Cypher, well done. You’ve won the prize for the dumbest comment of the week award and that’s no small feat. Well done.

  3. Regardless ADL will not send his players up north. Just like last season he will make this the excuse. We all want people to be safe, recover and be sensible. However we were missing 10 players out due to covid last season, and we still turned up for games.

  4. As hard as it is for me to go another week w/o italian football, postponing the matches is the only humane and reasonable decision.

  5. @SArcone

I’m sorry, are you prouding yourself on exposing the few healthy players you had left to danger? your so-called football club doesn’t care about its own players and staff and this is something to brag about how?

  6. @Gianni you need to do more research and stop listening to the media who are only narrative driven. Also please learn to write coherently as “prouding” is not even a word. These are young men, not morbidly obese and are not in a high risk category. Of course players who are positive need to self isolate and we wish them a speedy recovery. Does that mean that healthy negative players should not take to the field? The last time I checked you only needed 11 players to take to the field. Now if there were not enough players to make the bench then fine move the game. Last season ADL refused to turn up with 2 players being positive. Genoa were decimated last season but turned up. The variants are part of life and will stay forever. Does that mean we stop life for everything? Even if we are missing key players we still have reserves and need to play if both sides have enough negative players. Back logging games will not be beneficial as fatigue will also creep in. We have a playoff in March and must make sure we are properly ready for that match to make the WC. The problem is you are not even educated to talk about this subject as anyone who follows social media and the legacy corporations is just naivety. You lost me with “prouding”. As a foreigner the first thing I did when learning English is to check my spelling. I suggest you do the same. Also Juventus like any other club takes all health matters seriously so please stop with the anti Juve nonsense

  7. Juve play the First Leg Against Napoli and Lost Because we Didnot have all our South American Players after International Brake due to Covid Protocol… So Let this Game Play,Waterver Will Happend Will Happend ok….
