It is the most exciting end to a Serie A season in years, with the Scudetto going down to the wire, but the Lega have been criticised for scheduling Milan and Inter deciders against the Premier League games.

The 2021-22 title winners won’t be crowned until the final whistle on Sunday May 22, with Milan needing one point against Sassuolo, although they can also afford to lose as long as Inter do not beat Sampdoria.

Both those matches have been scheduled for 17.00 UK time (16.00 GMT) on Sunday.

The decision has prompted criticism and irritation from fans, because it is an hour after the final Premier League round kicks off, and here too the title won’t be sealed until Liverpool and Manchester City have both played.

The Lega Serie A had not even scheduled the games until today, so they could easily have chosen a later kick-off time to guarantee more of the global television audience and attention.

Instead, the relegation tussles SalernitanaUdinese and VeneziaCagliari are kicking off at 20.00 UK time (19.00 GMT).

The decision was made to allow time for the title celebrations in the city of Milan, whoever wins between the two rivals, without having them go through the night.

However, considering the focus that these games ought to have on the global stage, the scheduling decision to go up against the Premier League title race seems at best ill-advised, at worst counter-productive.

  1. I believe it has to do with the preparation and the celebrations for the title, for either Milan or Inter. Whatever suits the fans and the people actually attending and participating in person, that would be the priority.

  2. Totally agree as it matters what works for the teams, the fans and supporters.

However, in terms of the Serie A growth worldwide which helps with revenues for the league and television rights it was the usual typically amateurish action from Lega Serie A.

  3. Well, I follow Manchester City and my TV provider broadcasting Premer League since week 34 so I’d watch City too. But, of course Inter and Serie A are first.

  4. If Lega really cared about global audience, they would have never scheduled matches at 19.00 GMT. Which side of the globe would watch at such hour? Now if you want to follow Premier League to gain more global attention, push matches to be played earlier.

  5. Who cares about the #3 rated calcio league? It’s Premier League all the way baby, anytime, anywhere.

  6. Missed opportunity indeed and yet people wonder why the primier league is most watched around the world and thus have more wealthy ivenstors. I believe money from TV rights is definitely more than what stadium can do and pushing for more global views is the way to go. I don’t think another season like this will happen in the near future and the authorities missed a big opportunity

  7. MD, you’re right. That should take upmost priority.

Unfortunately, with the way money is made in today’s football it’s hard to ignore the faux pas that was committed.

  8. @Sergio apparently you care enough to come in here and leave a comment.
EPL fans are as delusional as they come.
Plenty of the rest of the world don’t watch the EPL.

  9. Guys, it’s 2022…the era of tech and multitasking. People tweet while watching 2 programmes at the same time and then live feed their reactions on Instagram TV and tiktok. Watch both!

  10. Anyway… one final step… it’s just what we need to overcome… I’m pretty sure that both Pioli and the players will mantain the required concentration, attention and determination to get the job done. By the grace of God, we will win.

    FORZA MILAN!

  11. Phack the EPL.. who cares.. I actually love this move… When England wins a tournament they can claim to be important.. We are Italy – a little down at the moment but we are comin back. Btw, I woul suggest the EPL changes it’s times.
