Lega Serie A have approved a new formula for the Italian Supercup, which will see four clubs involved from 2024.

Multiple reports in Italy claim Lega Serie A has agreed to change the format of the competition from next year.

It was a match between the Coppa Italia and the title winners, but from 2024, it will also involve the second-placed in Serie A and the Coppa Italia Finalist.

Inter have won the most recent edition, beating their city rivals Milan 3-0 in Riyadh in January 2023.

Gazzetta says the next two editions will also be played in Saudi Arabia.

The Supercoppa Final used to be the first official match of the season in Italy, but has often been played in January and abroad, following commercial partnerships with China and Saudi Arabia.

The first time it was played abroad was in 1993, when Milan and Torino met in Washington. It was followed by another edition in Lybia almost 10 years later (2002), another one in the States (2003), four in China (2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015) and two in Doha (from 2014 until 2016). Three of the last four editions were played in Riyadh.
