Within an hour of the FIGC announcing the introduction of B Teams, the Lega Serie B demanded a meeting to “revoke or modify” the rules.

The Federation released a statement to confirm Serie A clubs will be able to register their reserve teams to play in Lega Pro/Serie C from the 2018-19 season.

They’ll be allowed to get promoted and relegated, but not play in the same division as their parent clubs.

The Federation released a statement to confirm Serie A clubs will be able to register their reserve teams to play in Lega Pro/Serie C from the 2018-19 season.

They’ll be allowed to get promoted and relegated, but not play in the same division as their parent clubs.

Welcomed by clubs, the decision has been bitterly criticised by the Lega Serie B and President Mauro Balata pledged not to take this change lying down.

They released a statement of their own protesting the announcement due to “a total absence of discussion and agreement, as well as the damaging nature of this to specifically Serie B and the role it has in helping young players to grow.

“It also damages the territorial status of clubs and the competitiveness of the tournament with serious economic damage for the clubs and the interest for fans.

“Therefore, in agreement with the clubs, we have decided to call an extraordinary meeting as soon as possible to demand the FIGC revoke or modify the ruling.

“The Lega B will take any action necessary to contrast this, even relative to the current season play-offs and play-outs and blocking next season’s tournament.”
