Cagliari and Leeds United are in advanced negotiations for Uruguay international Nahitan Nandez, who has a €36m release clause in his contract.

The midfielder joined Cagliari in 2019 from Boca Juniors for €17m and is currently playing for his country at the Copa America.

After links with Inter, Juventus and Lazio, he became a primary target for Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa.

According to the Corriere dello Sport, the clubs are in advanced negotiations and Leeds hope to reduce the €36m release clause thanks to their good rapport with the Sardinians.

This could be achieved by Leeds asking to pay the figure over two or more instalments rather than in one lump sum, a proposal that Cagliari could well accept.

Nandez made 34 appearances for Cagliari this season between Serie A and the Coppa Italia, contributing two goals and three assists.

The 25-year-old has 40 senior caps for Uruguay under his belt and has dual Italian and Uruguayan citizenship.
