Leeds United have confirmed that Chairman and majority shareholder Andrea Radrizzani has officially left his position following approval from the EFL over a sale of the club to US-based 49ers Enterprises.

Radrizzani, who has been in charge since 2017, agreed a deal to sell his shares at the beginning of June in a deal reported by Sky Sports to be worth around €198m (£170m).

49ers Enterprises, owners of NFL franchise the San Francisco 49ers, had already owned 44% of the club, but have since gained approval to take on Radrizzani’s controlling 56% stake.

In a statement on Leeds United’s club website, Radrizzani said: “It has been an honour to guide Leeds United over the last six years and to spend so much time with the best fanbase in the world.

“49ers Enterprises have been fantastic partners for years and I’m confident they will take Leeds to the next level.”

Radrizzani has since taken over at Sampdoria following their relegation to Serie B at the end of the 2022-23 season.

The iconic former Italy, Juventus and Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo was appointed as coach of Sampdoria shortly after Radrizzani’s takeover was confirmed.

Samp will get their 2023-24 season underway with an away trip to Ternana on August 19.
