Lecco have won the Serie C promotion play-offs against Foggia and are back in Serie B for the first time in 50 years.

The club is representative of a small town with just 48,000 inhabitants in the region of Lombardy.

They finished third in their regular season behind automatically promoted Feralpisalò, then eliminated Ancona, Pordenone and Cesena in the play-offs.

The first leg was a shock 2-1 win away to Foggia, followed by this afternoon’s 3-1 victory at home to secure promotion.

Franco Lepore was the key to their success, the 38-year-old veteran having already scored in the first leg with a free kick and bagging a brace this time around.

Lecco had not been in Serie B since the 1972-72 campaign, which saw them relegated after just one season in last place.

Feralpisalò, Reggiana and Catanzaro were also automatically promoted by winning their Serie C groups.

Sampdoria, Cremonese and Spezia were relegated from Serie A to Serie B.
