Lecce published photographs of new arrival Marin Pongracic undergoing his medical tests as he completes the transfer from VfL Wolfsburg, with Samuel Umtiti of Barcelona expected to follow tomorrow.

The Croatia international centre-back will turn 25 next month and can also play as a right-back or a defensive midfielder.

He flew in this morning and was whisked to the medical centre for his preliminary tests before signing the contract.

It is reported to be a loan deal with option to buy at the end of the season for circa €6m.

Pongracic spent last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he made 23 competitive appearances, including five in the Champions League.

He is only the first of two big defenders expected to join Lecce, because reports in Spain suggest Samuel Umtiti has a flight booked for tomorrow morning with his entourage.

Barcelona have agreed to loan Umtiti to Lecce free of charge and cover his entire salary, with the Salenitini only needing to pay some performance-related bonuses.
