Lecce have announced they will not make a formal appeal after the Lazio penalty controversy, instead working with referees “to ensure clarity going forward.”
The Salentini had equalised for 2-2 when Khouma Babacar’s penalty was parried and Gianluca Lapadula turned in the rebound.
However, it was disallowed because Lapadula – along with two Lazio players – was already in the box when the spot-kick was taken.

However, it was disallowed because Lapadula – along with two Lazio players – was already in the box when the spot-kick was taken.
The VAR officials told the referee of this and, rather than have the penalty retaken, the goal was simply disallowed.
This understandably infuriated Lecce, who noted the rules had not been followed, and they went on to lose the game 4-2.
“This was an evident violation of Law 14, which states if a player of both teams infringes the Laws of the Game, the kick is retaken.”
To their credit, the club announced via a statement this morning that they will not be lodging a formal appeal, which could’ve created havoc if accepted.
“Lecce do not intend to promote this action exclusively in its interest, but rather collaborate with the authorities to help eliminate any future uncertainty in the application of a fundamental football rule and in the collective interest of all the clubs participating in competition.”
