Lecce director of sport Pantaleo Corvino ‘cannot deny’ interest from Milan, Lazio and foreign clubs for Morten Hjulmand, while explaining why coach Marco Baroni left.

Speaking to Sportitalia, Corvino was asked if there was truth in the reports of an approach from Lazio and Milan for midfielder Hjulmand.

“I’d have been shocked if we did not receive interest from both Italian and overseas clubs. I will not deny them, I have to be honest.

“Now we hope to bring in what the lad is truly worth, because what we are asking for definitely represents the quality that the player has shown on the field.”

The Danish international midfielder turned 24 only last week and has also been linked with Fiorentina and Borussia Dortmund.

His contract only runs to June 2024 and the asking price is believed to be in the region of €18m.

Lecce have changed coach this summer, failing to agree terms with Marco Baroni over a new deal, so they have hired Roberto D’Aversa in his place.

“Marco left with an embrace, so over two years he took us from Serie B to Serie A and then safety. He made some considerations that can happen for a coach who did so well, but they did not fit with our resources, so we had to go our separate ways and wish each other luck.”
