Lecce President Saverio Sticchi Damiani warns there is currently only a ’51 per cent chance’ of the Serie A season resuming, as the situation remains in flux.

While some regions are opening up for training from May 4, others currently from May 18, there is still no guarantee the 2019-20 campaign will resume at all.

“As things stand now, we would not resume training,” Sticchi Damiani told Radio Punto Nuovo Sport.

“It’s only right to discuss it, but at this moment there is an unfair disparity with the regions doing different things. I remember in early March that all the clubs agreed to stop rather than just those where people were dying in their hundreds per day, because it was for general health and the sporting thing to do.

“It would be best if in this case of returning, there was no favouritism or disparity. As things stand, I’d say there is a good possibility of resuming the season, although it depends on what happens after the training starts. I’d put it at 51 per cent.”

All 20 Serie A clubs voted yesterday to continue the campaign as long as the medical protocol can be agreed.

“It’s good that there was this shared view, because slowly all the clubs realised the only solution to keep the system going is to get playing again. There are too many economic and legal issues to be worked out otherwise.”
