With the summer transfer window starting to appear on the horizon, Rafael Leao’s future at Milan in still uncertain, with one path leading to a new contract and the other to a summer sale.

The Portuguese star’s current contract expires with the Rossoneri in June 2024 and the topic of a new deal has been prominent throughout the season, with media reports regularly detailing the tug-of-war between player and club.

Despite the fact that negotiations have been ongoing for a little while now, no serious progress has been made and Leao is seemingly no closer to penning a new deal, forcing Milan to plan ahead.

La Gazzetta dello Sport details how Leao has still not agreed to the club’s final contract offer, worth more than €6m net per season and lasting until June 2027. Milan have started to explore possible alternatives, aware that it may be best to cash in on the Portuguese star in the summer.

The Rossoneri are seemingly hoping to sell the 23-year-old for around €100m, but may be forced to accept a lower fee to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2024, a reality they’ve already had to stomach with players like Gianluigi Donnarumma and Franck Kessie.
