Ted Dimvula, Rafael Leao’s lawyer, provided an update on his client’s contract renewal talks with Milan, confirming that the ‘discussions are lengthy’.
It’s been widely reported in recent days that the 23-year-old Portuguese star has agreed to sign a new five-year contract with the Rossoneri, worth around €7m net per season, which includes a release clause set at around €150-170m.
Leao’s future has been a key talking point circling around Milan this season and the club will be desperate to formalise his new deal soon, wanting to avoid any possible threats in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Speaking to Foot Mercato, Dimvula provided an update on Leao’s new contract with Milan, confirming that work was ongoing to complete the deal.
“Yes, we are discussing with Milan to extend Rafael’s contract. As with any dossier of this magnitude, the discussions are lengthy and every detail counts. We plan to meet in the next few hours on this issue with the club’s management.
“For Rafael, Milan are a club that matters and his ambitions have not changed since he arrived here. He wants to play under a coach who knows how to develop him, and he wants to play in the Champions League.”
The 23-year-old Leao, who missed the first leg of Milan’s Champions League semi-final clash with Inter through injury, has scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 44 appearances across all competitions this season.
