Milan star Rafael Leao has revealed that he had previously attempted to convince former Inter, Juventus, Manchester City and current Barcelona full-back Joao Cancelo to join the Rossoneri.

The 2021-22 Serie A MVP sat down for a feature interview with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, released on Tuesday, during which he discussed a number of topics, including his time to date in Serie A, life in San Siro since Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return and his antics on social media.

Leao’s conversation with Joao Cancelo about Milan

Leao has previously made several public attempts to convince other players to join his club via social media, often using X to send the message ‘come to Milan’.

He revealed during his interview that he had spoken with Cancelo, who is still contracted to Manchester City, prior to his Barcelona loan move.

“National team, I was talking with Cancelo, because he played for Inter. And he told me ’honestly, I really like Milan, Milan is a high club, when I used to play in the stadium against them I felt the supporters, and when I was a kid, I really liked the club’. And I told him ‘come’,” he said of his chats with Cancelo.

“He told me it was difficult, he was with Manchester City.” “But I tried.”
