Leao came off the bench to score during Milan’s 2-2 draw with SPAL last night, and he is determined to establish himself as a starter at San Siro.

“I feel the confidence of the coach and my teammates, it’s easier to help the team like this,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I work every day to play from the start. If the coach puts me on the pitch to play, I’m ready.

“My objective is to wear the Milan jersey as a starter and be an important player for them.

“I’m happy here at Milan, I hope to stay here for a long time.”

The 21-year-old was brought in as Patrick Cutrone’s replacement, but he seems to have carved out a niche for himself out wide.

“Yes,” he replied when asked if he preferred playing on the wing.

“There’s more space for me out wide to run one-on-one, assist or cut inside and shoot.”

Finally, he was asked about his relationship with strike partner Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“He’s like an older brother, he gives me advice on where to improve. He’s always smiling and he’s a great teammate.

“He gives me confidence and keeps his head down. Off the pitch, he’s a different person.”
