Leao and Milan players respond to Maldini sacking

Milan players continue to post messages on social media expressing their shock at Paolo Maldini’s sudden dismissal, including Rafael Leao. ‘Thank you is not enough.’

The club icon had been a director since 2018 and was a constant presence at the Milanello training ground, keeping a close rapport with the players.

They were understandably stunned when Maldini was fired and now that the news is official, they have been posting messages that can only hint at what they would like to say.

Most are emojis or photographs, including Sandro Tonali and Mike Maignan, but Leao has been the first to write it out in words.

“Thank you is not enough… An exemplary person with an enormous heart and a determination without equal. It was a pleasure having experienced moments with you… I wish you all the best for the future! Always Milan.”

Leao accompanied this message with a series of pictures showing them together in recent years.

Earlier, the Portugal talent had posted first a pensive emoji, then a video of him in his car reflecting that he was silencing himself.

Now that the decision has been made, it remains to be seen how the players will respond publicly when asked more openly about this situation.
