Italy have shut down all sporting events until April 3 and the Players’ Association of Spain are urging a similar move for La Liga, while the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 are for now only playing some games behind closed doors.
According to news agency ANSA, a video-conference call will be held on Thursday between representatives of the five big leagues and UEFA secretary general Giorgio Marchetti.
It’s believed most of them – aside from the Premier League – will urge UEFA to postpone Euro 2020 either by a few weeks or even to next year.
The Coronavirus has now been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation and cases are growing rapidly around Europe as well as the United States of America.
If Euro 2020 is not postponed, then the various leagues will have to work out a way of assigning the title, European places and relegation slots.
UEFA have already postponed Europa League games Inter-Getafe and Sevilla-Roma.
