SPAL’s Manuel Lazzari admits he was a Milan fan growing up and that ‘best full-back in the world’ Joao Cancelo is his point of reference.

Lazzari has enjoyed a meteoric rise with SPAL, going from lower-League performer to Serie A regular and even earning his first Italy cap earlier in the season.

“I definitely see myself as a full-back one day and my point of reference is Cancelo,” the 25-year-old wingback told DAZN.

“Right now he’s the best full-back in the world and every time I see him play, I fall in love.

“Had I not been a footballer, I would’ve been a mechanic as I studied becoming one. I was a Milan fan growing up and I always went to the bar with my father to watch them play.

“I’d have sent my CV as a player to [Adriano] Galliani, but obviously I don’t support a specific team anymore.

“I’ve improved my crossing a lot because I worked on my head more than my technical ability and understood how to hit the ball. It’s a matter of your head, that’s all.”
