Manuel Lazzari had “stars in my eyes” at the idea of joining Lazio and reveals he will be available against Sampdoria. “I fractured my wrist before.”

The former SPAL winger completed a transfer for €11m, but was not expected to be available for this weekend’s season opener against Sampdoria after fracturing the metacarpus in his hand.

“It was a real blow on Sunday and very sore, but we managed to get the surgery done quickly and I can play with a protective cast. I’ve worn one before and had no problem, so I am available for the Samp game,” said Lazzari in his Press conference.

“I fractured my scaphoid (wrist) and had to play for four months with a protective cast. I’m glad I got it sorted so fast and in the end it wasn’t as bad as we feared.

“It’s a bit step forward in my career going from SPAL to Lazio. I’d heard talk of Lazio interest for a couple of years and it really did put stars in my eyes. Once the proposal arrived, I didn’t think twice. The Rome Derby is the best in Italy, the one everyone wants to take part in.

“Lazio won the Coppa Italia last season, so we’ll target Champions League qualification this time. We are a very strong squad with two starters in every role and I am so happy to be a part of it.

“The training methods are a little different and the tempo is much higher with a lot of quality, but I was already accustomed to the system. The Coach told me I should score three or four goals per year, so I do need to work on that.”
