After initially missing the call up through injury, Lazio winger Mattia Zaccagni will now join up with Luciano Spalletti’s Italy squad.

The 28-year-old Italian has grown into a core part of Maurizio Sarri’s squad in the capital, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists across 35 league games last season as the team secured a second-place finish.

Zaccagni was called up by Spalletti for Italy’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Malta and England but pulled out due to a minor issue, something touched on by Maurizio Sarri after Lazio’s thrilling 3-2 win over Atalanta.

As reported by Gianluca Di Marzio, Zaccagni has now recovered from his injury and will join up with Spalletti and the Italy squad in Coverciano.

The Azzurri coach now needs to decide whether to deploy the Lazio winger against Malta on Saturday or wait until October 17 for the clash with England.

Federico Chiesa is in doubt for Italy’s two Euro 2024 qualifiers, so Zaccagni’s return gives Spalletti a key boost.
