Lazio winger Mattia Zaccagni was the victim of a break-in during Tuesday night, losing around €70,000 in valuables.

The 28-year-old winger did not join the Italy squad for their final two Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Ukraine after suffering a knee injury in the 1-0 win over Feyenoord in the Champions League on November 7.

A number of Serie A players have suffered burglaries or attempted break-ins in recent months, including Roma’s Chris Smalling, Napoli’s Piotr Zielinski and Juventus’ Moise Kean.

As reported by La Repubblica, during Tuesday night thieves broke into Zaccagni’s apartment on Via della Camilluccia in the Ponte Milvio area of Rome. The Lazio winger and his wife Chiara Nasti were not home at the time.

The thieves stole around €70,000 of jewellery, designer handbags and other valuables, including the 28-year-old’s wallet.

Zaccagni had left the apartment to pick up his wife and son in the evening, and when he returned an hour later at around 8pm local time, he discovered the ongoing break-in, prompting the thieves to flee.

Investigations are now ongoing and initial signs suggest a window was forced open on the first floor and the alarm in the apartment may not have been set before Zaccagni left.
