Gabriel Paletta’s agent confirms Lazio “were the closest to signing him” but his client believes he can win a place at Milan.

“The Biancocelesti presented an important offer, but they didn’t fully meet our demands,” Martin Guastadisegno explained to Tuttomercatoweb.

“I respect [sporting director Igli] Tare who conducted himself really well but we couldn’t come to a conclusion.

“Among all the Italian teams who contacted me, the Biancocelesti were closest to signing him.

“[Milan Coach Vincenzo] Montella is happy that he’s staying, because he can play in all the roles in a three-man defence and both central positions in a back-four.

“Gabriel stayed because he’s sure he can stake his claim for the Rossoneri and I believe in him.”
