Sergej Milinkovic-Savic’s agent warned Lazio an offer over €50m could arrive soon, claim reports in Italy, likely to be from Manchester United.

The Serie A season kicks off this weekend and the 27-year-old remains the star player in their midfield.

His contract runs to June 2024 and so far the Serbia international has repeatedly rejected suggestions he is looking for a transfer away from the Stadio Olimpico.

Nonetheless, Il Messaggero reports that agent Mateja Kezman paid a visit to Lazio headquarters, warning a new proposal is on the horizon from abroad.

The obvious candidates would be Manchester United, who have made no progress in trying to convince Frenkie de Jong to leave Barcelona for Old Trafford.

They are not in the Champions League, but neither are Lazio, so it would not be an upgrade in that sense.

Juventus also still have Milinkovic-Savic on their radar, but seem to have targeted Leandro Paredes from PSG for this transfer window.

  1. And to think they could have sold SMS to Milan for 100m euros plus when Leonardo was Sporting Director. In hindsight selling to United for 50 would be a regret.

  2. Dazziano, yes, but that 50m difference is basically a trade-off for having kept him in the squad another four years. Lazio isn’t a mover and shaker, but they’re still trying to compete in their own way. Eitherway, I’d take him for 50m now, with the other parts of our project flourishing versus 100m four years ago with nothing else going on. If only we could come up with that 50m…

  3. The reason why Juventus do not win the Champions League is simple. It has been shown year after year that the scheme that helps teams is to have a good Area Killer, supported by two wingers that allow him to get rid of defensive marks and finally a midfield made up of 2 orchestrators and a recovery player. We saw it in Ancelotti’s Milan, Guardiola’s Barcelona, Ancelotti and Zidane’s Real Madrid, Deshamps’ France, Murinhio’s Rome, Mancini’s Italy, etc. In other words Seadroff-Pirlo-Gattuso, Modric-Kross-Casemiro, Xavi-Iniesta-Busquets, Pogba-Kante-Matuidi, Jorginhio-Barella-Verratti. All of them supporting a Killer. Juventus brings the best killer in history and the midfield is any player who was a free player that year. So you buy a killer like Vlahovic and forget about the midfield? What kind of mockery is that?
