The legal battle between the striker and Lazio has been raging for well over a year, as he was frozen out of the squad due to a contract dispute.
“FIFA have received a request for Velez Sarsfield to register Zarate,” explained Lazio lawyer Gian Michele Gentile.
“I also know that yesterday a judge was designated to decide whether or not to allow this temporary registration.
“This will result in a ruling on whether Zarate or Lazio are right and, in that case, how much Zarate and Velez must give Lazio in compensation.”
While Zarate is still under contract with Lazio, he maintains the terms are null and void because the club broke the rules by not allowing him to perform his profession.
