Lazio could solve their goalkeeping problem by signing Federico Marchetti from Cagliari.

The capital club are looking for a new custodian after contract talks with Fernando Muslera broke down.

The latter's agent yesterday stated that there would be no extension for the Uruguayan, which means the Biancocelesti are likely to sell before he becomes a Bosman in 2012.

Marchetti was almost instantly linked as a replacement and the player's agent has already met with Lazio chief Claudio Lotito.

"There will be more talks with Lotito," Giuseppe Bozzo said. "The player is highly rated by both Lazio and Roma.

"But the key thing for him is that he needs a regular starting shirt because he wants to return to the international set-up.

"There is a clause in his Cagliari contract which would allow him to leave if a bid of €5.2m is made by a club.

"Two or three sides are after him and Lazio have shown a certain amount of interest."

Marchetti hasn't played since the 2010 World Cup after a falling out with Cagliari owner Massimo Cellino.
