According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lazio are set to open talks with Chelsea to discuss Emerson Palmieri who has emerged as Maurizio Sarri’s priority at left-back.

The Italian tactician coached Emerson at Stamford Bridge, winning the Europa League in 2018-19. Emerson, a former Roma defender, spent the last season on loan at Lyon and the Ligue 1 side have an option to extend his temporary stay at the club for one more season.

They could also sign him permanently for €15m, but according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Lyon have already informed Chelsea that they don’t want to keep the Italy defender, either on loan or on a permanent deal.

Lazio boss Sarri is pushing to reunite with his former defender but is aware that reaching an agreement with the Blues isn’t easy.

The Premier League side value Emerson at €15m and the Brazil-born defender would need to take a pay cut to move to the capital. Emerson earns €5m at Chelsea but agreed to get a 50% pay cut to move to Lyon last summer.

Juventus are also monitoring the defender, but need to sell Luca Pellegrini or Alex Sandro first. In the meantime, Lazio continue talks with Atalanta for their goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi, but the two clubs have not yet reached an agreement.
