Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne are the only two midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues with at least 20 goals and 20 assists in the last three seasons.

Milinkovic-Savic has contributed to 20 goals and 25 assists in Serie A since 2020-21 and has a chance to deliver an assist in three consecutive games for the second time in his career against Spezia today.

The 27-year-old has played a key role for the Biancocelesti since his €12m move from Genk in 2015, collecting 60 goals in 57 assists in 303 games across all competitions.

The link with his teammate Ciro Immobile is quite solid as 24 of the midfielder’s assists in Serie A out of 42 led to goals from the Italy international.

Milinkovic-Savic has been linked with some of the best European clubs over the years, but Lazio always refused to sell, valuing their star at €100m.

SMS sees his contract expire in June 2024 and Lazio will soon sit down with his agent Mateja Kezman to discuss a contract extension, but it remains to be seen if the midfielder will agree to commit his future to the club.

“After his excellent season, I thought that a club would have surely made an offer, but due to COVID, the situation has changed. Italian clubs can’t afford him,” Kezman said in August.

“There was interest from foreign clubs, but problems began when they learned how much money they needed [to sign the player].”
