President Claudio Lotito warns Lazio players that ‘heads will roll very soon’ if results don’t improve while director Angelo Fabiani insists Maurizio Sarri won’t be sacked.

The Biancocelesti have had a terrible start to the season collecting just 17 points in 13 league games and lost on Saturday against Salernitana who secured their first victory this term.

Coach Maurizio Sarri said after the game that he was ready to step down if he was the problem, but Lazio directors are not considering parting ways with the Tuscan tactician who has been in charge for more than two years.

Instead, President Lotito sent a clear message to players in an interview with Il Messaggero on Monday.

“We lost a game playing 11 men against one [Antonio Candreva] and we can’t continue like this,” said Lotito, as quoted by TMW.

“We need a breakthrough or heads will roll very soon. I’ve given instructions to Fabiani who knows what to do and has carte blanche on everything.”

The Lazio director also spoke to Il Messaggero, insisting that Sarri won’t be fired.

“We lost against the last-placed team in the table and enough is enough. If somebody thinks the coach will be sacked is wrong.”

The Biancocelesti meet Celtic in a key Champions League meeting at the Stadio Olimpico on Tuesday. The Serie A side sit second in Group E, one point clear of third-placed Feyenoord and one point below leaders Atletico Madrid.

Lazio beat Celtic in the first-leg game in October, but have lost five of the last seven away matches in Serie A. Sarri’s contract at the Stadio Olimpico expires in June 2025.
