Lazio respond to Gila claims

Lazio have played down reports that Fiorentina forward Alberto Gilardino is on his way to the Italian capital.

The Biancocelesti are looking for a new centre-forward, but the former Milan man doesn't seem to be a likely arrival.

"There is not too much to say about these Gilardino stories," Lazio sporting director Igli Tare noted to violanews.com.

"Gilardino has a contract with Fiorentina and we are a serious outfit. We don't contact players before talking to their clubs.

"Every day 40 players are linked with Lazio and one of those is always Gilardino. However, I don't think that he wants to leave Florenceā€¦"

The 2006 World Cup winner has admitted that he will hold talks with the Viola once the campaign is over.

However, he has made it clear that he is willing to remain with the Stadio Franchi outfit.
