According to Thursday’s reports, Lazio are prepared to offer a contract extension with new and improved terms to goalkeeper Ivan Provedel.

The 29-year-old made headlines across the world this week after scoring a bullet header to rescue a point for Lazio in their Champions League group stage clash against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Perhaps even more important for Lazio were his heroics in Serie A last season, keeping 17 clean sheets, more than any other goalkeeper in the division.

What makes that feat even more impressive is the fact that Provedel was not expected to start at the beginning of the season. However, six minutes into the 2022-23 campaign, summer signing Luis Maximiano was sent off and replaced by Provedel, who has been undroppable ever since.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Provedel currently takes home an annual salary of around €1.2m. Reports in Thursday’s print edition of Il Messaggero state that Lazio are willing to increase his wage packet off the back of an unbelievable year on a personal level.

Lazio have an internal policy not to hand out new contracts to relatively new signings, but after being named the best goalkeeper in Serie A in 2022-23, tying Provedel down has become somewhat of a priority.
