Lazio were handed a fine and partial stadium closure for their fans’ behaviour in the Coppa Italia derby against Roma, whilst Jose Mourinho and Gianluca Mancini have been handed suspensions.
The Biancocelesti and Giallorossi battled it out in a heated Coppa Italia quarter-final clash on Wednesday evening, which ended 1-0 to Maurizio Sarri’s side after a Mattia Zaccagni penalty. Red cards were shown to Pedro, Sardar Azmoun, and Mancini as tensions ran high.
Roma’s Edoardo Bove was struck by a thrown beer bottle when being substituted off the pitch and there were clashes between supporters outside the Stadio Olimpico, proving the derby to be as tense as ever.
La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights how the sporting judge has handed Lazio a €50,000 fine along with a warning for the throwing of missiles and smoke bombs, as well as racist chanting aimed at Romelu Lukaku. Roma have been punished with a €15,000 fine of their own.
Four sectors of the Stadio Olimpico will be closed for Lazio’s coming Serie A clash with Napoli, including the Curva Nord, as further punishment.
Regarding suspensions, Mancini will miss three future Coppa Italia matches after being disrespectful towards to the referee, telling his teammates not to shake the official’s hand after the full-time whistle before acting verbally aggressive. The defender then waited outside the referee’s changing room before launching into another rant.
Azmoun will miss two future cup games, whilst Antonio Mirante, Pedro and Luca Pellegrini will all be banned for one. Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini has been suspended for two games and Jose Mourinho will miss one cup clash in the future.
Partial stadium closure won’t stop them. How many times have these inicidents happened before? 11 years in Serie B did not turn them into civilized people. Pathetic club with horrible supporters.
