Lazio President Claudio Lotito says Pedro’s return to Barcelona is ‘impossible’ and is glad nobody is no longer talking about Sergej Milinkovic-Savic joining Juventus in June.
Spanish winger Pedro has a contract until June 2023 on paper, but Lotito told Il Messaggero that Lazio have already activated an option to extend his stay at the club by one more season.
The 35-year-old had spoken about his possible return to Camp Nou in March, but the Lazio owner doesn’t see it happening before 2024.
“A return to Barcelona is impossible, the contract has been renewed already, there is an option in favour of the club and I won’t let this champion go,” he said.
Lotito added that Lazio are open to reinforcing the team if they’ll have a chance in January and commented on the future of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic who had been strongly linked with Juventus before the entire board of directors resigned last week.
“I still believe in his contract extension,” said Lotito.
“I’ve said that cycles have a start and an end, but I was not specifically referring to Sergej. I’d like him to stay because he is an icon of this club. It’s not up to me anymore, but now I hear nobody saying that his move to Juventus in June is already a done deal.”
Milinkovic-Savic’s contract runs out in June 2024, but Lotito has repeated that he won’t let his star go for less than €120m. It remains to be seen whether he’ll change his stance fearing that the player would leave as a free agent in 2024 if he doesn’t pen a new deal.
