Lazio President Claudio Lotito has been elected to the Italian Senate in the region of Molise: ‘I’ve put in heart and passion.’

The 65-year-old was a candidate for Silvio Berlusconi’s right-wing party Forza Italia in the single-member electoral district of Molise.

Multiple reports in Italy claim he has won a seat in the Italian Senate.

“I ran this election campaign with my heart and soul, authentic feelings that the people of Molise have perceived,” he said as quoted by Open.

“I’ll bring their demands to the Parliament with the same passion I had during the election campaign.”

Lotito is not the first Italian football personality making his way into Italy’s politics. Silvio Berlusconi is clearly the most prominent figure. His right-hand man and ex Milan director Adriano Galliani was also elected to the Senate in 2018.

Roma won their second Serie A title in 1982-83 when Dino Viola, an Italian Senator at that time, was at the helm of the club.

Lotito acquired Lazio in 2004, avoiding the club’s bankruptcy following the Sergio Cragnotti era. The Biancocelesti have won the Coppa Italia three times under Lotito.

  1. Lotito will help ensure the trains run on time. I am of the opinion that we need more football presidents as senators, especially ADL. Forza Presidente(s)!
