According to Corriere dello Sport, these are “decisive days” for De Vrij’s future as Lazio plan to begin talks over extending his contract imminently.
The newspaper explains the Aquile’s desire to negotiate a new deal for the Dutchman has been known since the end of June.
However, while they are happy to include a release clause in the contract, Il Corriere claims De Vrij is only willing to commit if his deal can be bought out for a low fee.
The 24-year-old joined Lazio in 2014 for €7m and could leave for nothing next summer as it stands.
Lucas Biglia did not sign a new deal with Lazio, instead joining Milan last month, while Keita Balde Diao is also likely to leave, with there only being a year left on his contract.
