Sporting director Igli Tare has less than a year left on his current contract with Lazio and a new deal is reportedly being worked on.

The 49-year-old Albanian joined the club in 2008 and has worked as their sporting director ever since, pulling off smart deals like Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Luis Alberto. In recent years Biancocelesti fans have started to grow increasingly tired of Tare and his signings, with flops like Denis Vavro and Dimitrije Kamenovic being wasteful investments.

As reported by TMW, Lazio president Claudio Lotito still believes in Tare and is quietly working on a new contract for the sporting director. Current indications suggest that the new deal will tie him to the club until 2024 or 2025.

The Albanian director seemed close to leaving Lazio last season but has since rekindled things at Formello and now a renewal seems likely.

Tare recently sparked controversy after calling the Europa Conference League ‘a competition for losers’ and suggesting that top teams like Juventus and Inter were ‘technically bankrupt’.
