Lazio have been handed a one-match spectator ban, suspended for a year, for the Curva Nord after racist chanting by their supporters.

The sentence is suspended for one year, so the Aquile will not face an immediate stadium closure, but any similar penalty incurred in the next 12 months will see the ban and fine added to any sentence handed down for the second incident.

In its official judgement the Lega Serie A declared that around 50 per cent of the 7,700 Laziale in the Curva Nord were heard repeatedly aiming racist chants at Genoa players during last night's defeat.

The judgement states that on eight separate occasions in the first half chants which were “clearly expressive of discrimination on grounds of race” were aimed at Mbaye Niang and Edilson.

The club was also fined €15,000 for offensive chants directed at the match officials.

On the playing side, the Biancocelesti will be without goalkeeper Federico Marchetti for a week after he was sent off for bringing down Niang in last night’s game.

Stefano Mauri and Lorik Cana will also miss Lazio’s next match after picking up a fourth yellow card of the season.

Elsewhere, Juventus striker Carlos Tevez, Napoli’s Dries Mertens, Jose Holebas of Roma, Stefano Okaka of Sampdoria, Palermo’s Giancarlo Gonzalez and Sassuolo midfielder Saphir Taider will also sit out the next round of fixtures after picking up a fourth caution at the weekend.
