The world of Calcio is in mourning after the death of Vincenzo D’Amico, one of the key figures in the Lazio side that won the Scudetto in 1973-74.

The midfielder was 68 years old and had recently revealed on May 7 that he had been dealing with cancer for two years.

At the time of the Serie A title victory, D’Amico was just 19 and had been promoted from the youth team by coach Tommaso Maestrelli.

D’Amico wore the Lazio jersey from 1971 to 1986.

In later years, he became a fixture on Italian television, working as a pundit.

He died this morning at the Gemelli hospital in Rome.
