Lazio midfielder Toma Basic was robbed at gunpoint while on his way to a restaurant for a lunch with his teammates.

The 25-year-old Croatia international stepped out of his car at the Johnny Micalusi restaurant when a masked man wearing a motorcycle helmet approached him.

A gun was jabbed into Basic’s ribs and the player was made to hand over a Rolex Daytona watch.

At this point, the man got onto the back of a motorbike and rode away.

The incident occurred at 13.30 local time in the well-to-do Parioli area of Rome.

It is only the latest occurrence of a Serie A player being robbed at gunpoint over the last few months, while others saw their homes broken into while they were taking part in matches.

Basic joined Lazio from Girondins de Bordeaux in August 2021 and so far this season he has made 15 Serie A appearances, plus six in the Europa League, scoring one goal and providing two assists.

  1. It’s quite common for players living in London and Liverpool too, not just an Italian problem. Hope they catch the scumbags responsible.
