New Lazio signing Pedro Rodriguez blasted his previous club Roma for cutting him out of the squad ‘without any directors talking to’ him directly and was convinced to switch by Maurizio Sarri.

The former Chelsea winger had only been at Roma for one season, scoring six goals and providing seven assists in 40 competitive games, but was not part of new coach Jose Mourinho’s plans.

“It was a difficult situation at Roma, because they left me out of the squad without any directors even talking to me about it,” Pedro told Lazio Style Radio.

The 34-year-old was one of several players who simply weren’t invited to pre-season training, despite being under contract with the Giallorossi.

He made a move across the city to Lazio for free, with only performance-related bonuses, and has already played in both Serie A wins this season.

“When I spoke to Sarri, it was a great opportunity. It’s true that nobody has moved straight from one Roman club to another for a long time, but I am very happy to be here.

“Roma represents the past, I don’t want to talk about them anymore. I am here to work with this Lazio side and with Sarri. I want to give my all and help my teammates.”

Pedro came up through the Barcelona youth academy and moved to Chelsea for €27m in 2015.

His contract had expired and he was a free agent when signing for Roma in September 2020.

  1. It does make you think, unless you’r braindead.

Roma forced many players out and got stuck with a few….probably not enough.

  2. It’s called cleaning the squad from unwanted players.
Same as work, if one employer doesn’t performed well, healthy company will cut him.
    It’s normal.
