Lazio midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has earned a recall for the France national squad after Antoine Griezmann pulled out through injury.

France are set to face Germany and Chile in high-profile friendly matches to warm up for Euro 2024, played in Lyon on March 23 and Marseille on March 26.

The former Arsenal and Olympique Marseille man is having a strong debut season in Italy with three goals and as many assists in 37 competitive appearances for Lazio.

He turns 25 next month and has seven senior caps for Italy under his belt, contributing one goal and one assist.

Guendouzi’s most recent appearance for Les Bleus was at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, playing 79 minutes of the 1-0 defeat to Tunisia.

He got the call from coach Didier Deschamps after Atletico Madrid star Griezmann pulled out due to an ankle injury that had already troubled him before the Champions League tie with Inter.

This ends a run of 84 consecutive matches for Griezmann with the France squad.
