The coronavirus pandemic has been raging in Italy for almost two months now and the season was suspended just over a month ago.

There were reports this morning that Lazio had suspended wages for players and staff during March, but Diaconale told Lazio Style Radio that was not true.

“The news suggesting Lazio blocked wages for March is entirely without foundation and I had already denied it to the media who then published this story.

“We will honour all contracts and hope to resume as soon as possible.”

The Lega Serie A today announced that all 20 clubs had agreed the season should be concluded, even Brescia, who had been adamant until a few days ago that they’d withdraw their team.

“The determination of President Lotito has brought the Serie A teams to reach a unanimous agreement on the intention of continuing the season. It is necessary to avoid economic problems for one of the most important sectors in the Italian economy.

“There are over 250,000 workers involved in football and it cannot be paralysed for a long period of time. I hope that from tomorrow the Government can confirm the date for our return to training.

“The fans know that President Lotito fought hard for this and I hit back at all those who suggested otherwise.”
