Sergej Milinkovic-Savic was initially left on the bench to avoid the risk of a ban, but he was controversially booked for Lazio and will be suspended for the Derby della Capitale against Roma.

The Serbia international was a second half substitute against Salernitana at the Stadio Olimpico, with Maurizio Sarri trying to avoid the yellow card that would’ve triggered an automatic one-match Serie A ban.

However, when he came on with the result at 1-1, it didn’t take him long to get booked for what seemed a very harsh decision.

After just eight minutes, Milinkovic-Savic appeared to run into Dylan Bronn after making a sideways pass, the defender simply standing his ground and the Serbian continuing his run.

It was considered to be a stamp on Bronn’s foot and a yellow card, which means Milinkovic-Savic will have to watch from the stands next weekend when his Lazio teammates take on Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

He was the only Lazio player at risk of a ban going into the game with Salernitana.
